Because he represents what we all should strive to become.
Because he used his power for everyone’s benefit, but his own.
Because he’s been dead for 40 years and yet even my class of Mexican, Salvadoran and Guatemalan 1st graders find him fascinating. As my rambunctious Ali journaled today, “I think Martin Luther King Jr. was good and I wish he could give me a hug.”
Even 6 and 7 year-olds can recognize a great man when they hear about his actions and words.
In honor of MLK Jr. (and my sister-in-law) I will tone down my angry tone and try to be more peaceable with my words.
i know another Man who “used his power for everyone’s benefit, but his own” and “represents what we all should strive to become.”
but this Man is alive…and i think i will ask Him for a hug whenever i see Him in person, finally.
